I'm a complete beginner to guppy breeding, I found this site because, well, I have to make things difficult for myself or I'm not happy, and was looking up green guppies because (of course) I decided that's the color I want to try to go for. I'm probably going to be a more casual breeder than most people here, especially since I don't have room for a messload of tanks.
What I do have are two tanks containing all the fry I've gotten from one female I had (and died) that had a greenish tint to her tail. The fry are 6 months old now and had been separated early on by sex. So far I've been amazed to find out that not a single one of the males has green on them (their tails are beautiful, but seem to be in two groupings, yellow with black spots, and bright honkin' orange with black splotches, calico-like). Their bodies are silvery but every now and again I see a green/blue irridescence which is really nice. All the females have green tinted tails, go figure. So everyone will get to see my bumbling efforts in this hobby, and I've probably described absolutely worthless fish. Smile
One direct question: What is the best way to take a photograph of a fish? I'd like to get some pics of my fish, but the colors always wind up horribly washed out compared to their real coloration.
Hello Ranasp, greetings and welcome to the forum!

I, too, am always looking to improve the quality of the pictures I take of my fish.

One of the ways I get reasonable pictures is by taking pictures in a dark room. The only light I have on in the room is a good tank light.

A macro lens is almost essential if you want very high quality pics.

What sort of camera are you using?

I hope to get some pictures up soon. Do you have any to post?
Whew, I was afraid no one ever came here!

I have a sony mavica digital camera, I'm absolutely wretched at taking pictures with any camera so I imagine I'd do horribly with even the best equipment. I tried taking some pictures tonight and one wound up passable, although washed out. I'll post that in the correct folder...Maybe once the camera's battery is recharged I'll take a short video (which the camera also does) since I tend to have a little better luck with that.
