As of now I have 1 male (Unsure of name) that has a light multi colored body that gets really dark before the tale, and then the inside of the tale is yellow lined with orange. Then I have a blonde female, and a HB female. I also have about 28 fry. Would have been more, but my 4 year old got curious the last drop that happened and he pulled my yarn from the breeder net that she dropped in and all but one of the babies died. :( We have since had a very long talk about y he is not allowed to touch momma's tanks.

Hi - I just signed up. I've been keeping tropicals (community tanks, mostly) since the 70's, started seriously breeding guppies when my son was small - '95-ish. The most important thing I've learned in the last 10 years is you have to start with good stock. I started with pet store fish and after 10 years of work on the pet store strain I am just beginning to see males with consistent patches of green on their tails. On the other hand, the stock I bought from breeders (Shubel and others) are bigger, healthier, more uniform genetically (no more spurts of red males seemingly out of nowhere) and I am having much better luck approaching that green color that I want. Currently I have a green delta line and a green moscow line, but the moscows are about 10% what I would call green, mostly blue with a few purples, and the delta line while a lovely green have a lop sided delta - the top half of the triangle is much longer than the bottom, leaving them looking kind of sword-tail-ish. I am actively pursuing stock for outcrossing to try to get the tail into equilateral triangle shape. I'm also ditching my petstore line by selling it to - you guessed it - a pet store. I also freecycled a lot of the reds (a yahoo list where you give things away free to anyone who'll come and get it) I like to think the fish I'm selling are better than the ones I originally bought.

Hi, I'm new to this forum, joined about 2 minutes ago! I just had to tell somebody that would understand that I just received a shippment of Blue Moscow guppies and another of Purple Moscows and I'm so excited. One of the sellers sent 18 instead of the 10 stated in the bid and the other sent 8 when the bid was for 2! Guess I lucked out, either that or guppy people are just naturally generous! I used the drip method to get them used to my tank water and I have seen no signs of stress at all, they all look quite happy. The one who sent 8 also sent along a few fry! Some of the fry are very very small, they were in with the bigger fish in the bag and survived so I hope they will not get eaten in my tank! I also, fortunately, got the duck weed that I had ordered. I had a few moments of concern when I added the duck weed because it went all through the water and looked like a green snow storm! However, it has calmed down now and there is only a little still not on the top. The guppies seem to enjoy this, they actually look like they're swimming just far enough below it to get rubbed by the roots, they are also eating the free floating stuff. I also have 2 Purple Mystery Snails and 2 common pleco's. Both the snails and the pleco's came out to take a good look at the new comers and then went back to doing their own thing! I have 2 apon plants and 3 marimo balls coming this week, a few more guppies, not many, and probably next month a big piece of Cypress driftwood. I do have a question though, do Purple Moscows ever throw aquamarine colored off-spring? I have two of the most gorgeous looking Moscows with a light aquamarine spot on each side of their bodies and tail fins with the same color - they really are beautiful as the aquamarine kind of glows. Believe me I'm not complaining, just curious! I have a 30 gal tank. I also got a complete 10 gal set up (and I mean complete, everything is there) the tank is an old one circa the 50's or 60's with chrome framing all around the sides and top and bottom, for $10 which I have cleaned up and started cycling for fry. I haven't had fish for many years and I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning right now! Oh, I have an Eclipse 3 filtration system going and it seems to be doing very well.
I'd welcome any suggestions, questions etc. that anyone has. I'm still looking for Green Moscows at a reasonable price! :P

I use the term "calico" since he seems to be made up of three main colors, reminded me of a splotchy cat coat. This picture is more washed out than he normally appears, sometimes the orange practically glows. I'm rather happy with how the tail size has turned out, although the dorsal is a bit small compared to some I've seen. Apologies for the fuzzy photograph, not only can I not take pictures, but the freakin' fish won't hold still either. ;)

I'm a complete beginner to guppy breeding, I found this site because, well, I have to make things difficult for myself or I'm not happy, and was looking up green guppies because (of course) I decided that's the color I want to try to go for. I'm probably going to be a more casual breeder than most people here, especially since I don't have room for a messload of tanks.
What I do have are two tanks containing all the fry I've gotten from one female I had (and died) that had a greenish tint to her tail. The fry are 6 months old now and had been separated early on by sex. So far I've been amazed to find out that not a single one of the males has green on them (their tails are beautiful, but seem to be in two groupings, yellow with black spots, and bright honkin' orange with black splotches, calico-like). Their bodies are silvery but every now and again I see a green/blue irridescence which is really nice. All the females have green tinted tails, go figure. So everyone will get to see my bumbling efforts in this hobby, and I've probably described absolutely worthless fish. :)
One direct question: What is the best way to take a photograph of a fish? I'd like to get some pics of my fish, but the colors always wind up horribly washed out compared to their real coloration.
