I have a line of blue/greens that seem to be very prone to bleaching in the tails. Usually along the edge of the tail, but also occasionally in the center part of the tail of adult fish I see almost complete loss of pigmentation.

Has anyone experienced this and developed a method for tackling it?

I had read and overheard at a guppy enthusiast's meeting of solutions that can be added to the water to minimize or even prevent it completely. does anyone know of such a solution?

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Sounds like its possibly genetic ! I have the same problem with the solid red snakeskins I keep, what Im doing is out crossing with a non related similar strain to see if it will improve, and so far the f 1s are looking good !

and I've also have noticed over the years and diffrent stains that not all guppies do well under the same conditions,fish bred in asian countries do better in hard alkali water,while U.S bred guppies seem to like it a little softer , have had many a disapointment when I've gotten guppies from Thailand just to see they're tails shread to nothing within a week !

All my moscows seem to end up with a larger or smaller white border to their tails, but I'm not sure that's what you're referring to.

I always have a tough time with the first generation that arrives from the breeder. The offspring, raised in my own local water, are always happier/healthier/sturdier. It is good to try to match the water chem the breeder is using for that first batch of fish, though.
